After the summer vacation, I came back from Thailand because my best friend threw a party for his and his wife’s 2nd wedding anniversary. I rushed earlier to attend the party, and I was very excited. Once Winnie the Pooh said, “A day without a friend is like a pot without a single drop of honey left inside.” But after getting married, this line literally feels like a joke, lol 😂.
Anyhow, today’s topic is about how to dress up for different parties. It could be a party from our best friend or any kind of birthday party, surprise party, dinner party, cocktail party, or dinner party. According to the party, we can dress up.
What you wear to your best friend’s party depends on the occasion and the venue. Here are some ideas:
- Casual Party: For relaxed gatherings, men can try chinos and a crisp shirt, while women can wear a midi skirt or tailored trousers and a blouse. You can elevate the look with statement accessories like earrings or a watch.
- Nighttime Party: At a fancy restaurant or lounge, you can dress up in a cocktail dress or tailored suit with dress shoes. Women and girls have more options in terms of cocktail dresses compared to men. Not only in cocktail dresses but in every section, girls have more options, lol.
- Birthday Dinner: For a birthday dinner occasion, it will be a great idea to wear a black one-piece outfit like a slip dress, mini dress, romper, or jumpsuit that can be dressed up or down. For a casual party, you can try a floral dress with sneakers.
- Bold Look: Wanna look bold? Try a bodycon party dress that can make a statement. You can also try a classic pair of jeans with a bold party shirt.
- Smart Casual: Men will look smart with khakis or slacks, a blazer, sweater (if it’s winter), shirt, and tie. Women can choose pants, slacks, or a skirt with a nice top or sweater.
- Casual Birthday Party: For a casual birthday party, you can opt for jeans or casual pants paired with a nice top or a casual dress. Comfortable shoes like sneakers or flats work well too.
- Semi-Formal Birthday Party: If the birthday party is semi-formal, you may want to wear a dressier outfit such as a cocktail dress or a nice blouse with dress pants or a skirt. Men can consider wearing dress pants with a button-down shirt or a polo shirt.
- Formal Birthday Party: For a formal birthday party, you may need to wear more formal attire such as a suit or a formal dress. Men can wear a suit and tie, while women can opt for a cocktail dress or a formal gown.
- Themed Birthday Party: If the birthday party has a specific theme, make sure to dress according to the theme mentioned in the invitation. This could involve wearing costumes or specific colors related to the theme.
Some Other Ideas About Dressing for a Party:
- Dressing to Impress: If you want to impress someone at a party, you can follow these ideas:
- Wear a colorful wrap or cocktail dress for daytime festivities. Semi-formal parties during the day call for smart attire in playful colors and patterns. Pair a knee-length (or just above the knee) dress with cork wedge heels or low heels for comfort and style.
- Pair a flashy skirt with a simple fitted blouse and low heels. A flashy sequin skirt goes perfectly with a simple (tucked-in) top, making a statement without looking overdone. Top it with a cropped denim or leather jacket for cooler weather.
- Wear a cocktail dress or tailored suit for fancy nighttime parties. If the birthday party is at night and taking place in a fancy restaurant or upscale lounge, that’s the time to break out those cocktail dresses, tailored suits, and dress shoes! Aim to look sharp and sophisticated with a touch of glamour and drama.
- Accessorize to complement your outfit. Accessories can enhance your style and highlight your best features. But too many accessories can look cluttered and distracting, so be tasteful and remember: less is more! A simple bangle or bracelet will call attention to your wrists, while an understated gold or silver necklace can highlight your décolletage. For men, a puffed pocket square and a nice watch can make any simple suit look posh.
- Matching a Theme: If you are in a themed party, you can follow these ideas:
- Go thrift shopping for retro themes. If you have the time and don’t mind spending a little money on a themed outfit, thrift stores are a great resource to find clothes that fit various decades. For the 1950s, look for pastels and waist-high skirts with a little retro bell shape. If the theme is the 1970s, opt for high-waisted jeans (with flared legs), paisley patterns, psychedelic prints, ponchos, and clunky platform shoes.
- Wear pastels for an “Under the Sea” theme. Say the theme is “Under the Sea,” but you don’t have any flowy-looking garments. You can wear a pastel shirt, leggings of any color, and a pastel-colored skirt over it with a colorful scarf tied around your waist. You won’t exactly look like a mermaid, but the color scheme will allude to that idea!
- Wear denim-on-denim for a late 90s look. Take a tip from celebrity fashion, like wearing head-to-toe denim to channel a late 1990s celebrity-darling look. Combine different washes of denim to make it look more fashionable and highlight your best features. Pair this look with statement heels or a long blazer to glam it up.
- Cut up an old skirt to make a cape or toga. Old clothes you don’t wear anymore are perfect for costumes because you can cut and shape them to fit various themes. For example, that old maxi skirt you no longer wear can be cut open down the side and fashioned into a cape or draped like a toga.
It’s always a good idea to check with your friend or the host for any specific dress code or guidelines for the party to ensure you dress appropriately. Ultimately, the most important thing is to wear something that makes you feel comfortable and confident while also respecting the nature of the event.
What if the Birthday Party is Yours…!!
Always relish the opportunity to make a classy fashion statement. Also, consider the impression on others. Imagine if everyone attended your birthday party in cargo shorts, Crocs, and tank tops instead of dressing nicely; it would undermine the event’s significance. It’s your special day! Dress well! And if others seem underdressed, take pride in setting a high standard!
- If you’re a teen girl, you can wear a dress. Dresses are great for any occasion! They can give you a classy look, a hot look, a cute look, or any look you desire.
- A classy look could be something like this.
- A hot, spicy look.
- Or a cute and subtle look.
- You can even pair dresses with shrugs, jackets, or scarves, something like this.
- Now, if you don’t want to wear dresses, here are some other outfits that will rock!
- You can pair mini skirts and sweaters; nothing else can be cuter!
- Long hair and short hot pants never go out of fashion! Shorts are a girl’s love! Pair them with a crop top and a shrug, keep your hair open, and whoosh! You’re ready.
- And never underestimate the power of jeans! You can pair jeans with almost anything you wish to! Ripped jeans will add a touch to your style. Go for heels, wedges, shoes, or loafers—anything will do with them.
Hope this idea will help you 🙂
