We may have noticed that our lips get dry and chapped much faster than our body skin during summer or winter because lips are more flexible than the skin on other parts of our body, and the skin on the lips is very thin. Lips have a thin layer of sensitive membrane. Lip care is more important in extremely hot, harsh, or humid climates as there are no multiple layers. Since our lips are very flexible and sensitive, our lips become dry and chapped in hot or cold weather. Regular moisturizing is essential to protect lips from the heat of the sun and from the cold in winter.
Let me tell you some ways to take care of your lips:
Lip Balms
Lip balm or lip salve is a waxy substance commonly applied to the lips to moisturize and relieve chapped or dry lips, angular cheilitis, stomatitis, or cold sores. Lip balms often contain beeswax or carnauba wax, camphor, cetyl alcohol, lanolin, paraffin, and petrolatum. If your lips are very dry and chapped, try a thicker ointment, such as white petroleum jelly. Ointments hold water longer than waxes or oils. Apply a non-irritating lip balm with SPF 30 or higher before going out. Apply SPF-rich lip balm twice a day to take care of your lips. There are many well-known brands that make lip balms; you can pick any of them.
If You Have Frequent Chapped Lips
If you have frequent chapped lips, mix rose water and glycerin. Apply this mixture on the lips at night before going to sleep. Do not apply your tongue to the lips frequently; otherwise, the pH level of the thin membrane of the lips will not be balanced, and it will quickly start cracking the lips. Again, don’t exfoliate too hard, as it can damage the lip skin. Apply lip balm 15 minutes before applying lipstick. This will increase the moisture of the lips and the durability of the lipstick.
Extra Care for Lips
It is important to remove lip makeup as well as face makeup. Remove the lipstick every night with a cleansing gel. It is better to use a cleansing gel rich in aloe vera. Do not use soap, as it will make the skin rough. Cleansing gel removes makeup completely while keeping the skin of the lips soft. Moreover, aloe vera is very beneficial for the skin.
Apply almond cream after removing lip makeup and leave it overnight. Regular use will remove the blackness of the lips. Regular application of almond oil or milk juice brightens the color of the lips.
If you apply rose petals paste on your lips, your lips will be soft and pink. Moreover, you can mix coconut oil, sandalwood paste, and rose water and apply it to your lips while sleeping at night to get soft lips. Get up in the morning and wash again. Regular use of this will make the lips soft.
Lipstick Shade and Skin Tone
While choosing any lipstick in the brown shade, you can try lip shades that are closer to your skin tone. Try applying a little lipstick on the cheeks; then you will understand how it will look on the lips. Do not apply the lipstick tester to the skin of the hands or directly to the lips. Apply the lipstick tester with a clean brush or earbud. Make sure to use moisturizer and SPF-rich lipstick.
Apply a little gloss over the lip color when going out in the evening. If you want, you can also use only bright lip gloss. Just because it’s trendy doesn’t mean you have to use a particular lip color. Don’t use too many dark colors if you don’t want to. Avoid colors like neon pink or light mauve on wheat or dark skin tones.
If lips are not smooth, apply a little foundation before applying lip color. Just foundation can make lips feel dry again, so apply a little lip balm over the foundation. Foundation often makes the color of the lip color a little lighter, so you have to choose a lip color that matches the foundation.
Lip Gloss
Lip gloss gives your lips a shiny and glossy finish, making them look more attractive and eye-catching. Some lip glosses contain a tint or color that can enhance your natural lip color or add a pop of color to your makeup look. Lip gloss can be used as a finishing touch over lipstick to add shine and dimension, creating a more polished and put-together look. Those who prefer a more natural look can use a clear or light-colored lip gloss to add a subtle sheen without the intensity of lipstick.
Lip Liner
Use a lip liner that matches the color of your lipstick. You can also use a nude shade lip liner. Lip liner will work well if you want to make your lips look bigger. If the lips are thin, you can fix the shape of the lips with a liner. But make sure that the lip line does not look too artificial.
Apply a light-tone lip color to the inner part of the lips to outline narrow and thin lips. Use dark colors to outline the outer part. Then blend the two colors well. Opt for creamy, glossy colors that will make your lips look puffy. And if the lips are thick, use a matte lip color. If the lower lip is thicker, use a dark shade of lip color and use a lighter shade of lip color on the upper lip.
Special Problems
People with sensitive lip skin are more prone to infection. In that case, you should consult a doctor. However, do not apply your tongue to such lips frequently. Allergies can cause swelling of the lips and sores around the lips. The use of expired cosmetics, exposure to excess chlorine, or excessive chewing of gum can cause allergic problems. Again, fruit must be washed well before eating. Because, as a result, if there is any chemical, the problem of allergy may appear on the lips.
